The Penn State Nittany Lions have one of the top hockey programs in the nation, and are set to host the biggest regular-season game in program history this weekend.
But the historic blizzard that just ripped through half of the United States almost made it so that the game wasn’t possible. That is, before a number of Penn State students banded together and stepped into helped.
The fifth-ranked Nittany Lions, led by presumptive number one pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, Gavin McKenna, host No. 2 Michigan State on Saturday inside of Beaver Stadium, the school’s legendary football stadium.
Penn State officials say that the school has already sold more than 67,000 tickets for the game, which would make it the third-highest attended college hockey game of all time behind two prior meetings between rivals Michigan and Michigan State.
Before that could happen, however, the University had to clear snow from the stadium seats so that attends could actually, y’know, attend the game.
In order to do so, they called in some reinforcements.

Penn State student Emma Neskie took to TikTok on Monday to share a video of students shoveling out the stadium before the big game on Saturday.
In return, the students were given free tickets to the game, a food/drink voucher for the game, and additional hot food and drink while shoveling out.
According to the video, they also got the opportunity to slide down the stadium using the chute meant to move snow from the stands to the field, which, as a former Penn State student, looks pretty darn sick.
If the Nittany Lions asking fans to help out with stadium clean up looks familiar, it’s because Buffalo Bills fans did the same at Highmark Stadium before a showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024.
