The Seattle Seahawks have been surprisingly competitive this season. A lot of the praise can be put on Geno Smith. After struggling as a starter throughout most of his career, Smith has come to life in Pete Carroll’s offense. However, the head coach stirred the pot a bit after hyping up Drew Lock.

Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll Hypes Up Drew Lock Amid Geno Smith’s Strong Season

According to NBC Sports Edge, Pete Carroll praises Drew Lock and even claims “Drew nipping at his heels every day in practice.” It’s an odd thing to say considering how well Geno Smith has been playing. You’d think the Seahawks’ head coach would give credit where credit is due. Instead, we’re here talking about Lock.

However, Carroll does explain his thought process in hyping up Drew Lock, per NBC Sports Edge. The Seahawks’ head coach states, “He’s got good stuff going right there in support of what Geno does. It just keeps everybody on their toes. It’s the whole thing about competition; it’s good and we like (that) it continues to be this way.”

A little competition never hurt anyone. Regardless, when you have a quarterback balling out and playing like a true Comeback of the Year candidate, wouldn’t it make more sense to support him? Especially considering it doesn’t appear that Geno Smith needs a fire lit under him right now.

Who really knows what’s going on in Pete Carroll’s head? At the end of the day, we should expect to see Geno Smith under center for the remainder of the season. If an injury does occur (hopefully, that doesn’t happen), then Drew Lock would likely become the starting quarterback. Until then, let’s just appreciate Smith for what he’s done so far.
