Tyrann Mathieu is looking for a deal.

This NFL offseason, rumors have been swirling as to where the talented defender might end up in 2022. After spending three seasons in Kansas City, it appears as though he’ll be playing for a new team next year.

Mathieu is a dynamic defensive back that has the ability to play both safety and nickel. He’s known to be a playmaker and seems to have a knack for finding the football.

This began in his college days at LSU, where he picked off four passes, recovered eight fumbles, and forced 11 more. After a two-year stint with the Tigers, Mathieu became a third-round pick.

Over eight professional seasons, the Honey Badger has recorded 26 interceptions, three of which have been returned for scores. His production would provide an immediate boost on the back end of most defensive units.

Luckily for him, there’s always someone looking for ways to stop today’s high-powered offenses.

Mathieu should find a new home this year, and we may have a potential landing spot based on a recent report.

Tyrann Mathieu Has Been In Touch With Mike Tomlin, Steelers

Tyrann Mathieu, himself, said he’s talked on the phone with Mike Tomlin, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Those talks haven’t amounted to anything yet, but the potential to bring the star to the AFC North is there.

The Steelers need help on the back end. They got it a few years ago with the addition of Minkah Fitzpatrick, but bringing in Mathieu would give the unit even more playmaking ability.

Here’s what the Honey Badger had to say about his talks with Tomlin.

When asked about how he’s handled things this offseason, Mathieu responded with the following.

“I mean, just being able to have this time with family though, it’s cool. But I still try to enjoy the process. It’s still cool talking to all the coaches, the different coaches, cause some of these guys man. Mike Tomlin calling your phone. He like ‘Hey oh, this Mike T’, you know, so just being able to talk to these guys, man.”

Tomlin is a defensive guy, himself. He was a defensive back coach at Minnesota before becoming a head coach, and just seems to have more of a connection to that side of the ball.

It’s encouraging to hear that the Steelers, and more specifically Tomlin, have reached out but Pittsburgh is just one team in the Tyrann Mathieu sweepstakes. Should the team ultimately land him, it could have something to do with this relationship.
