Former UFC star Jorge Masvidal had a busy 24 hours on Thursday.

On Thursday morning, Masvidal spoke with Mike Heck of MMA Fighting and defended former foe Nate Diaz after the latter was issued a warrant for his arrest in New Orleans.

“I haven’t seen like all the camera angles and this and that, but from what I know and from what I’ve seen, it looks like that dude attacked Nate, and Nate defended himself, and instead of punching him in the face and breaking his jaw, he was very cool about it and just like put him to sleep, like, ‘Yo, chill out, don’t get crazy,’” Masvidal said. “I don’t know, I saw that he got hit with some charges and stuff. I think that’s bulls***.

“It’s weird, it looks like they’re pushing up on him and he’s kind of backing up and then it happened, so I don’t know what else to say. Then at least here in Florida, we got this rule called stand your ground. You can defend yourself if somebody is attacking you. I don’t know how it works in [Louisiana], but it looks crazy, man, because it’s a fighter. A lot of people do want to challenge you sometimes, and have a couple of drinks and they want to start mouthing off, and it goes from like half-joking to now they want to play with you and it’s like, ‘Well, I don’t play like that at all.’

“I mean, you’re like f****** around. We could either go 100 percent, or not go at all.”

Just hours later, he found himself dealing with potential legal trouble of his own.

Police took one person, Masvidal’s 67-year-old father Jorge Masvidal Sr.,  into custody following a shooting at Masvidal’s Southwest Miami home, according to a local news report.

“Jail records show Jorge Masvidal Sr. was booked at 1:33 AM Friday … following allegations the 67-year-old opened fire on a man near the kitchen of Jorge Masvidal Jr.’s house roughly 12 hours earlier,” says TMZ.

The house is registered to Masvidal. Though he was not present when the incident occurred. The shooting sent one person to the hospital, though police said they’re in stable condition.

“The alleged shooter in this case also stated, along with the victim, that they were in a heated discussion that turned into an argument, and the argument escalated to the point where the shooter shot the victim in this case,” Miami-Dade PD detective Thomas said.
