The Portland baseball team made history on Tuesday during an 8-0 win over Seattle University. Senior pitcher Ryan Rembisz completed the Pilots’ first ever perfect game in impressive fashion.

He needed only 90 pitches to get through the RedHawks’ lineup three times. He faced the minimum 27 batters, striking out nearly half of the hitters he saw.

The lefty racked up 12 Ks, nine groundouts, and six flyouts. He faced just one three-ball count. Rembisz was both effective and efficient in his performance.

The perfect game was the 37th in NCAA history, and the 21st to go the full nine innings. Ryan Rembisz spoke on the accomplishment after the fact.

“I just felt like my defense had my back, and [Assistant coach] Trey [Watt] was making such great pitch calls,” he said. “Later in the game, seventh, eighth, and ninth inning, I was just trying to stay relaxed.

“I was trying to talk to the boys in the dugout. Not isolate. Just treat it like a relief appearance… I still don’t quite register that last inning.

Rembisz says the ninth inning was still a little fuzzy. He doesn’t remember much of what happened when he recorded those final three outs, or the celebration that followed. He was in the “flow state.”

The pitcher says he knew that the night had a chance to be special early on. Around the fourth inning, he knew his stuff was working. By the seventh frame, the perfect game thoughts began to creep in.

What make it more impressive is the fact that this was just Ryan Rembisz’s third career start, and his first of the ’25 campaign. He’s not accustomed to the role. He’s typically called upon from the bullpen. It didn’t matter!

In four appearances this season, he’s posted a 1.72 ERA with a pair of wins while striking out 16 batters in 15.2 innings of work. Opponents are hitting just .115 off the lefty thus far.

The performance could solidify his role as a midweek starter moving forward. If so, it will be hard to follow up his debut performance!
