The Portland State basketball team picked up a win in its regular season finale over conference rival Sacramento State on Monday, 59-56. The victory secured the third overall seed in the upcoming Big Sky Tournament.
Vikings head coach Jase Coburn addressed the fanbase after the fact to announce his team’s pursuit of an NCAA Tournament berth. His pep talk turned accidentally explicit in an instant.
Portland State entered its latest matchup tied with Idaho State for the third spot in the league standings. The Bengals dropped their final regular season game. It gave the Vikings an opportunity to leapfrog.
It wouldn’t be easy, but Portland State would get it done. Last-placed Sacramento State put up a fight, going ahead by double digits early in the first half.
The Vikings overcame the deficit and eventually put the game on ice with a pair of late free throws and a defensive stand. Jase Coburn was fired up!
He grabbed a hot mic and proceeded to announce his team’s championship aspirations. His speech went off the rails quickly.

Portland State’s basketball program hasn’t been to the Big Dance since 2009. At 19-12 on the year, they have an opportunity to record just their fourth 20-win season in history.
Their head coach knows the importance of his upcoming conference tournament. They’ll face Idaho in their first postseason matchup next Monday, needing three wins to cut down the nets.
