Seven games into the 2021 NHL season, the Capitals are currently undefeated in regulation with four wins and three overtime losses. As Washington hopes to break its streak of three consecutive First Round playoff losses, a big part of its production continues to come from its captain.

At 36 years young, “The Great Eight” Alex Ovechkin is off to a tremendous start. He became just the second player in NHL history over 35 to score eight goals in the first seven games of the season and even scored with a broken stick.

In addition to his prolific early season performance on the offensive side of things, Ovi is still getting after it on the boards. During Monday’s 7-5 win over Ottawa, Ovechkin absolutely pulverized Senators winger Nick Paul.

A POV video from the other side of the glass has recently gone viral and it will send shivers down your spine. The video, taken from the second row, shows Paul come down the ice to chase a loose puck.

Upon arriving to the corner, Ovi skates in from Paul’s blindspot and obliterates him. Paul, who gets crushed, slithers down the boards to the ice.

Take a look at the hit and be sure to turn your volume up to get the full experience:

OUCH!!!!! Paul is going to feel that one in the morning.

There is a reason that Ovechkin is one of the greatest of all-time and he doesn’t show signs of stopping. What a vicious hit.
