Russell Wilson‘s legendary (or infamous, depending on who you ask) “Dangerwich” sandwich is officially back, sort of.

Iconic Pittsburgh-based sandwich change Primanti Bros promised to bring the short-lived former Subway sandwich back to life should Wilson play well in his Steelers debut on Sunday night.

Well, Wilson went 16-of-29 for 264 yards and two touchdowns in Pittsburgh’s 37-15 blowout win over the New York Jets, and the rest is history.

Introducing the “Dangeruss.” Which we can only assume is named as such due to copywrite issues with Subway.

The new sandwich includes pepperoni, salami, ham and bacon and is, as customary, served Pittsburgh Style.

What is Pittsburgh Style?

All Primanti Bros sandwiches come with melted cheese, coleslaw, tomato, and French fries on two slices of thick cut Italian bread which is often toasted.

So, what exactly is a “Dangerwich.”

What Exactly Is Russell Wilson’s ‘Dangerwich’ And Why Is It (In)Famous?

Those with a good memory will recall the Wilson-inspired sandwich introduced in 2022 as part of the company’s ‘Vault” digital-only menu featuring sandwiches from several prominent athletes.

Wilson’s sandwich included pepperoni, salami, black forest ham, provolone cheese and bacon on Italian herbs and cheese bread with lettuce, green peppers, tomatoes, banana peppers, yellow mustard and mayo.

That…doesn’t sound all that spicy.

But Wilson’s nickname and social media handles are @DangeRussWilson. So Subway rolled with it.

The result was a series of cringe-worthy commercials that led to the sandwich being discontinued just months later.

But seriously, just watch this…

Wilson is undeniably one of the NFL’s most cringe-inducing players. But Pittsburgh fans won’t care if he keeps leading their Steelers to victory.

Pittsburgh is already. It boasts one of the NFL’s top defenses opposite Wilson and co., and there’s growing reason to believe Wilson and the Steelers could be in for a surprisingly special season, new sandwich and all.
