It is early on in transfer season for college football and big names are already flooding into the portal.

Just in recent days it has been reported the Phil Jurkovec, Brennan Armstrong, Hudson Card, and Cade McNamara would be looking for new schools where they could play quarterback.

Now it appears another quarterback is joining Card and McNamara on the list of QBs who have started for teams currently ranked in the top 25.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Notre Dame’s Drew Pyne will be entering the transfer portal after spending most of this season as the starting quarterback for the Fighting Irish.

Pyne didn’t open this season as Notre Dame’s starter. That job went to Tyler Buchner, but he was injured during the team’s Week 2 loss to Marshall. Pyne took over from there and made the most of the opportunity.

In 11 games for Notre Dame this season Pyne threw for 2021 yards and 22 touchdowns while completing 64.6% of the passes he attempted. He also helped Notre Dame bounce back from a brutal start to the season to work their way back into the top 20.

While that is going to make him an enticing option for a number of programs around the country, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he would have been Notre Dame’s starter again next season. He still likely would have had to win a quarterback competition against a healthy Buchner ahead of next season to keep the job.

Now he’ll instead look for a team with less competition at the position who will be willing to commit to him for his 3 remaining years of eligibility.
