A concerning report surrounding Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers surfaced on Monday claiming that he’d planned to sit out the remainder of the 2024 college football season.
It came two days after the passer was benched for Arch Manning in a loss to Georgia.

247 Sports posted the initial news, though it was quickly scrubbed from the site’s Instagram feed. The post suggested that Ewers planned to shut it down in order to prep for the upcoming NFL Draft.
That fire was further fueled by the quarterback’s absence from Monday media availability.

It was a shocking rumor given head coach Steve Sarkisian’s reassurance that Ewers hadn’t lost the starting role.
“Quinn Ewers is our starting quarterback,” Sarkisian affirmed after losing to Georgia on Saturday. The assertion came shortly after the signal caller was temporarily replaced.
The reasoning behind the benching? The Longhorns needed a spark.
Texas fell behind 23-0 in the first half against Georgia, having no answers for Kirby Smart’s defense. Manning briefly took over, going 3-for-6 for 19 yards before Ewers came back in off the sidelines.
“I was just trying to settle Quinn down a little bit, try to give us a little bit of a spark,” Sarkisian said. “We’ve got to get out of our own way. We’re not playing very good as a unit right now.”
Would Quinn Ewers walk away from the Texas Longhorns?
His camp says the reports are completely false.
A report about Quinn Ewers leaving Texas for the NFL Draft is not true, per Ewers’ representative Ron Slavin. Ewers practiced today and is focused on Vanderbilt.

Quinn Ewers toyed with the idea of entering the NFL Draft last offseason. He ultimately opted to return to Austin after coming up one game shy of a national title appearance.
It seems ridiculous that he’d consider leaving his Longhorn team now with playoff aspirations still in reach, but nothing is surprising in today’s world of college football!
That said, he has no plans of bailing on his team.

For now, Texas can take sigh of relief. Expect Ewers to be back in the lineup next week versus Vanderbilt.
