The Texas Longhorns are set to move into the SEC next football season, providing a potential boost in competition with a shift out of the Big XII.

Though his new conference boasts the likes of Alabama and Georgia, QB Quinn Ewers still believes his team is the cream of the crop.

The signal caller took part in the Manning Passing Academy over the weekend, flashing the skills that have him sitting atop a number of 2025 NFL Draft boards.

The Longhorns are fresh off a College Football Playoff appearance where they fell 37-31 to Washington. Ewers was a big reason for the team’s success.

The QB threw for a career-high 3,479 yards with 22 scores to just six interceptions. While he toyed with the idea of entering the NFL Draft, he eventually made the decision to spend another season in Austin.

A headliner alongside teammate Arch Manning at the Manning Passing Academy this past weekend, he was asked about the team’s future with that move to the SEC coming.

Quinn Ewers put a large target on Texas’s back with his comments about next season.

The SEC is widely considered college football’s top league, and it will certainly provide a step up in competition for the ‘Horns. Still, Ewers believes that Texas is the opponent that teams are circling on the schedule as it makes its SEC debut.

“It’s definitely a different level, and I’ve always wanted to play in the SEC,” he said. “I know we’re all excited to be a part of a conference like that, but like you said, we’re everybody’s biggest game. We do understand that.”

Many quickly noted that SEC programs Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, and Florida have won national titles since the Longhorns last hoisted the trophy in 2005, with the conference totaling 13 championships in those two decades.

Social media reacted immediately.

“We tried to warn y’all about the arrogance but no,” one Texas A&M supporter wrote.

“The SEC won’t see it that way. The arrogance is pathetic,” said someone else.

Even Oklahoma fans took note of the remark, with this Sooner saying, “Someone tell him he’s not in the BIG 12 anymore. Even then, OU was everyone’s biggest game.”

Texas should have no issue competing in the SEC next year, but many believe they’ve got work to do before overtaking the Alabamas and Georgias of the league.

Ewers, whether intentional or not, just provided bulletin board material for future foes.
