Who is the best quarterback in the NFC South?

Most people would tell you that it’s Atlanta Falcons signal caller Kirk Cousins. After all, Cousins is four-time Pro Bowler and was playing at an extremely high level before tearing his achilles a year ago.

But Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White is not most people, and he’s not buying the Cousins love.

After Twitter spam aggregator account MLFootball listed Cousins as the best quarterback in the division, White stepped in to set the record straight.

White called the list “cap,” saying “not Cousins is definitely not try again.”

Presumably, White believes that Bucs starter Baker Mayfield is the best quarterback in the division. Though it’s hard to defend that take from a numbers perspective.

That being said, Cousins is coming off a serious surgery and nobody knows how he’ll respond. Even the Falcons don’t seem to have faith in the man they gave a four-year, $180 million contract just a few months ago.

Atlanta shocked fans by using the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

If you believe in a quarterback, you have to take him. And if he sits for four or five years, that’s a great problem to have because we’re doing so well at that position,” Falcons GM Terry Fontenot said of the move. So, it’s as simple as, if you see a guy you believe in at that position, you have to take him.”

Atlanta head coach Raheem Morris says Cousins is still the team’s QB1.

“Kirk does not have to look over his shoulder every time he throws a bad pass. That is not the case,” he said. “I am sure I’m going to have to tell you guys (in the media) that a few times – that is not the case.”

But that can’t give Cousins a ton of confidence, and it appears rival teams are ready to pounce on that uneasiness.
