A change is coming about in the world of social media.
Twitter owner Elon Musk is confiscating blue checkmarks for users, unless of course, you opt to pay for the new “Twitter Blue” feature. Thursday marked the deadline for the platform as verifications are slowly but surely beginning to be removed.
This affects top media personalities, as well as notable athletes, entertainers, and more.
Many have been opposed to paying the ransom, saying they don’t need to pay to stay relevant. Some are doing it on principle, others for their dislike of the app’s new owner.
Either way, there has been an outpouring of reaction from notable celebrities worldwide.

One sports figure that voiced his opposition to the new feature was LeBron James, who tweeted out the following message in March.
“Welp guess my blue check will be gone soon cause if you know me I ain’t paying the $5.”
It appears he’s now gone back on his word as Twitter users speculate that he is, in fact, paying for his checkmark.

Many have been quick to react.
Clay Travis of Outkick said, “I’m not sure any athlete lies more frequently than LeBron. About everything, large and small.”
The Barstool Sports account simply wrote, “LeCap.”
Another Twitter user wrote, “Lebron James always lying for no reason,” which was a common thread amongst followers.
The response didn’t end there.
Lebron James got caught lying again & he bought the twitter verified badge 😭 pic.twitter.com/qkexjm1T4u

There is a theory floating that could dispute these claims…
this is very possible, i checked some public institutions that i am pretty sure did not pay for Blue and still have them and the app also reports they “paid for Twitter Blue” https://t.co/zXPvts0VsS

Stephen King later said that he still has his checkmark despite not paying for Twitter Blue.
My Twitter account says I’ve subscribed to Twitter Blue. I haven’t. My Twitter account says I’ve given a phone number. I haven’t.
Elon Musk may or may not have confirmed this, but that’s not nearly as fun as believing James is up to his old antics.
It wouldn’t be the first time LeBron James has lied about something stupid. He’s been called out constantly by fans for his ridiculous claims.
This appears to be the latest hilarious instance, and it never seems to get old.
