Robert MacIntyre Unapologetic About British Open Temper Tantrum That Earned 2nd Code Of Conduct Warning

Robert MacIntyre received a code of conduct warning at the British Open on Sunday. He did not appear overly concerned about the punishment.

MacIntyre spoke with media after wrapping up his final round. He addressed the situation, which was the result of a somewhat frustrating day on the links.

On multiple occasions, the golfer was seen pounding the ground with his clubs. Following a poor shot on No. 16, he slammed his driver at the tee box.

Potential discipline can include a one-stroke penalty or a two-stroke penalty/loss of hole penalty according to Rule 1.2b, though MacIntyre was not assessed an extreme punishment in this case.

It is actually the second code of conduct issue seen at the British Open. Jon Rahm was warned on Friday for throwing his club.

MacIntyre entered the final round somewhat in contention for the Open Championship. He started his Sunday at -3, just two shot off the Top 10. Unfortunately, he went in the wrong direction on the last day of the tournament.

MacIntyre bogeyed four holes and finished +1 on the day. He lost eight spots on the leaderboard to tie for 28th.

His emotions got the best of him on the 16th. He was not surprised by the warning. He did not apologize for it, either.

“I expect to get a few of them in my career,” he said. “Yeah, I run hot. So be it. I’m going to do it for the rest of my career. I try and toe the line, but when you feel you’re playing a golf course that you can hit it pretty much anywhere and there’s no real punishment, and then you do hit one slightly off-line and you get the biggest punishment you can possibly get, it’s just a sore one. “To be honest, I couldn’t care less,” he continued. “If I got a two-shot penalty, it’s my fault. A warning, it’s my fault. I don’t really worry about it.”

Not his first offense.

Earlier this year, Robert MacIntyre was hit with a warning at the Masters for throwing his club during a temper tantrum. He was also heard swearing and caught flipping the bird during a frustrating opening round in Augusta.

The golfer got a talking to after that incident in his first major of the year. He’s now been reprimanded a second time in his final major of the season.

According to The Scotsman, the 29-year-old (who declined to speak to the media after the round) got a talking to from officials at Augusta National following those outbursts, as they reprimanded him for his behavior during a conversation where he was “reminded about a code of conduct.”

Golf can be a frustrating sport. MacIntyre fell victim to the links on Sunday.

These types of outbursts have led to criticism in the past. MacIntyre is far from the only offender. Most notably, Wyndham Clark was banned from Oakmont after damaging the locker room after the 2025 US Open.

MacIntyre’s tantrum wasn’t nearly as dramatic. Still, he admits his behavior crossed the line. He will not apologize.
