NFL Fans React To Roger Goodell’s Comments About The Deshaun Watson Situation

The NFL held its fall meeting on Tuesday night and league commissioner Roger Goodell actually, and finally, addressed the Deshaun Watson situation.

Watson has not played a single snap for the Houston Texans this season, not because of his ongoing legal troubles, but because he simply wants out of Houston. Watson faces 22 civil complaints alleging sexual misconduct as well as 10 criminal complaints but has not been charged with any crime.

The way the NFL sees it, it doesn’t have to make a decision about Watson or whether to place Watson on paid leave, because that’s exactly what the Texans are doing right now, paying him not to play.

This all changes if/when Watson attempts to actually take the field, then the league will have to make a decision.

Many believe that the NFL has dragged its feet here, but again, Watson has not been charged with a crime and the legal system isn’t necessarily the fastest moving thing in the world.

Goodell explained on Tuesday that the league hasn’t made any sort of decision regarding Watson due to a lack of information.

“We don’t have all the access to that information at this point in time, and we pride ourselves on not interfering in that, being cooperative as we can to make sure we get all the facts, but I think that process is still ongoing,” Goodell explained.

And until that process is ongoing and we have enough data and enough information to be able to make a determination of whether he should go on Commissioner Exempt, we don’t feel that we have that necessary information at this point.”
