A huge part of what made Rory McIlroy’s Sunday round so perfect en route to winning his first green jacket at The Masters was how riddle with imperfections the round was. Between the 9th and 18th holes he only had 2 pars! Many others have already said this but it was a roller coaster of a round which was emblematic of his career and it ended in the most cathartic way possible, his first green jacket and exorcising the demons which have plagued him for years.
Shortly after Rory sank his birdie putt on the 18th during the first playoff hole against Justin Rose to win it all, Nike released the perfect tribute. It was almost as if they’d been sitting on this video (or the concept) for years…
At some point on Tuesday, Rory McIlroy dropped the mic and updated his X (née Twitter) bio to read ‘Grand Slam winner’ and just now Rory McIlroy shared a Masters video that would be PERFECT if it was not for the dang music… At the very least, it gives us one final reason to nitpick Rory after he completed the career grand slam 3,899 days after his last major victory.

Do you know how I know that Elon Musk’s tweaks to X have been horrible? This is the reply right under the PGA Tour, all because of ‘Premium’ that boosts replies when people pay no matter how horrible the replies are… Ain’t NOBODY ALIVE ever heard Coldplay and though ‘I should turn this all the way up’ because they heard Coldplay and immediately fell asleep.

Did I get a little choked up watching Rory win it all on Sunday? You’re darn right I did. Did I feel those same emotions watching that Rory McIlroy Masters video above? Absolutely not.
Coldplay makes spineless music for people who order boneless buffalo wings, dudes who drink a nice glass of warm milk before bedtime to calm down, and folks who think that pepper is too spicy. Coldplay is so notoriously lame that it was immortalized in 40 Year Old Virgin with Steve Carrell.
Bands from Northern Ireland, where Rory grew up, are few and far between for a tribute like this but there were options… Stiff Little Fingers, The Undertones, Snow Patrol, the lead guitarist from the IDLES is from NI, Gary Moore… I’m really grasping at straws here because ANYTHING would have been better in that Rory McIlroy Masters video than Coldplay.
I do feel fortunate that I was able to get to my first Masters this year and lucked my way into front row seats at the Practice Area directly in front of Rory on Tuesday and got to watch his full warmup session and then was able to follow him and the amateur he played with for half of their round on the course. He was DIALED in.
