Rush Propst is back coaching high school football. The controversial 67-year-old was recently tapped as the interim head coach Coosa Christian in Alabama during 2025.

Whether you like it or not, the Conquerors immediately become state championship contenders.

It will be interesting to see just how long Propst can stay out of trouble. The most infamous high school football coach of all-time rarely lasts more than a few years before his next scandal derails his career.

How did Rush Propst get (in)famous?

That is a loaded question. You likely know him from his role on the MTV reality series ‘Two-A-Days’ in the early 2000s.

He was famously brutal toward his players but his program was a powerhouse in the Yellowhammer State. Hoover won five state championships in six years.

Rush Propst was ultimately fired in 2007 for a few different reasons. Perhaps most importantly from a legal standpoint, he allegedly altered the grades of his players so they would be eligible to play.

And then it got super messy…

Propst was married to his high school sweetheart at the time. They had three children.

Meanwhile, he was having an affair with the school administrator at Hoover who helped to fudge his players’ grades and a second, completely different teacher at the same time. Oh, and Propst also had an entire second family in another part of the state.

Scandal follows him wherever he goes…

Colquitt County hired Rush Propst the very next season. He was later suspended in 2016 for headbutting one of his own players during the Georgia state playoff— without a helmet.

The Packers won a state championship with Propst as head coach in 2015. They fired him in 2019.

A lengthy investigation found that he was likely dispensing undisclosed “pills” to his players, which became a recurring issue. He also failed to show up to 21 half or whole days of work without notifying his boss.

To make matters even worse, Propst owned nearly $450,000 in state and federal taxes. Outside reports claimed his failed payments dated back to 2010.

If that was not wild enough, Rush Propst made his return to the sideline and to reality television during one single season as the head coach at Valdosta High School in Georgia. The Wildcats were featured on the Netflix series ‘Titletown High.’

As you can imagine, it did not take long for more trouble to arise. Propst was cited for a “lack of institutional control” because he played multiple ineligible transfers— in addition to a crazy saga involving a one-armed booster named ‘Nub.’

Valdosta was fined more than $7,500, which was the largest total in state history. It was also banned from the playoffs, required to forfeit multiple games and fired its head coach after just one season.

He’s back coaching high school football!

Propst was hired as the associate head coach and athletic direct at Coosa Christian High School in Alabama prior to 2023. He left after just three months to become the head football coach at Pell City.

That did not last long either.

The school board called a special meeting to vote on the termination of Propst’s contract less than one month after his hiring. No vote was taken so he did not get fired but he resigned at the start of May.

Propst returned to the associate head coach role at Coosa Christian for 2025. However, the Conquerors were forced to suspend head coach Mark O’Bryant to avoid a postseason ban.

With O’Bryant out, Rush Propst is in. The most controversial coach in high school football history will serve as the interim head coach at Coosa Christian this season! His first game back is in south Georgia…
