Things Get Awkward When Ryan Garcia Blasts Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins On Stage During Press Conference

The beef between Ryan Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions is getting extremely awkward.

Earlier this week, De La Hoya’s righthand man Bernard Hopkins had previously said in an interview that he “will see how Ryan looks and then make my personal decision on whether he should fight again.”

Hopkins’ comments appeared to annoy the superstar boxer.

During Thursday’s Duarte-Garcia press conference, Ryan fired back at Hopkins.

“There’s a couple things I want to touch [on.] One thing that’s been on my heart is the statement that Bernard made where he’ll decide if I’m gonna finish or if I’m gonna continue boxing after this fight.

“He don’t decide that. My coach does, my team does, everybody that grinds with me day in, day out. Ultimately God decides, not him. Nobody was telling him when to stop boxing. He stop boxing at what 45? So kudos to him. But he don’t determine that.

“Last time I checked he said he’d never lose to a white boy then Joe Smith Jr knocked him out of the ring. Last time I checked Joe Smith Jr is white. So they be lying.”

Ryan then took aim at De La Hoya while De La Hoya was standing behind him on stage.

“Oscar’s saying that we misinterpreted what they say. It’s plain English. I didn’t hear anybody speaking any language I don’t know. So it’s very clear to me that they’re backing this guy to beat me … they’re saying he’s the next Mexican star.”

De La Hoya looked extremely uncomfortable while Ryan was going off on Golden Boy.

Garcia has been trying to get out of his Golden Boy contract after his fight against Gervonta Davis which led to De La Hoya filing a lawsuit against him to honor his contract terms.
