Ryder Lyons played the worst game of his high school football career against Mission Viejo. The Folsom offensive line struggled to provide him with any protection during a blowout loss.
Even though it was a rough outing, on the road, the BYU commit was still swarmed like a rockstar after the clock hit zero.
I don’t know what it is about Lyons but the five-star high school football phenom is one of the most popular athletes in the entire country right now as an 18-year-old. Especially among the youth.
Who is Ryder Lyons?
The Northern California-native ranks as one of the top-five signal-callers in the college football recruiting Class of 2026 and a top-25 prospect overall. He is ranked behind No. 1 and No. 2 overall recruits Faizon Brandon and Keisean Henderson, Texas commit Dia Bell and Georgia commit Jared Curtis.
Ryder Lyons ultimately committed to BYU over Oregon. However, he will not arrive to Provo until 2027 after he serves a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
His second start of his senior high school season was rough.
Lyons completed 21 of 32 pass attempts for only 177 yards and one touchdown with one interception. It was the least impressive performance of his career to date.
With that being said, Mission Viejo finished with eight sacks on the night so it was not entirely his fault. Folsom’s offensive line did not give their quarterback much time to throw downfield.
The Diablos smacked the Bulldogs by a final score of 53-14.
The losing quarterback was treated like a rockstar.
Even though Mission Viejo quarterback and Ohio State commit Luke Fahey led his team to a dominant blowout victory at home, all of the attention was on the young man across from him.
Students — mostly high school girls — swarmed onto the field as soon as the game ended. They so badly wanted to catch a glimpse of Lyons, even though he plays for the visiting opponent and lost.
A lot of attention for Ryder Lyons after a tough loss. Sucks to be a five star quarterback. pic.twitter.com/9mcq6TeXcN

I’ve never seen anything like it! Ryder Lyons is a star.
The Cougars commit hit ridiculous numbers on Instagram after his win in Week 2. He needed a police escort just to get back to the locker room because of the postgame swarm.

Genuine superstar stuff. BYU didn’t used to get dudes like this… pic.twitter.com/eGvMfl6U0y
Lyons has 220,000 followers on Instagram and 350,000 followers on TikTok. Under Armour featured him in its new advertisement alongside Cam Ward, Justin Jefferson and Gunna.

I don’t know if it’s the BYU effect or his viral dancing on social media but he is a huge deal. Not even Arch Manning reached this level of superstardom while in high school!
Lyons lost by 39 points on the road. Mission Viejo students treated him like he won the Super Bowl!
