San Francisco 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall is in stable condition after he was reportedly shot during an attempted robbery on Sunday.

NBC Bay Area’s Gia Vang broke the news on Twitter late on Saturday afternoon.

BREAKING: 49ers Ricky Pearsall has been shot in Union Square in an attempted robbery,” Vang wrote.  “According to Sup. Peskin’s office, the suspect is in custody and Ricky is in stable condition. His office has been in touch with Central Command.”

San Francisco selected Pearsall with the 31st pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Florida. The rookie missed the entirety of the 49ers preseason due to a shoulder injury, but was expected to be a big part of the 49ers offense in the upcoming season.

Vang did not offer details about where Pearsall was shot or what injuries he sustained.

A similar incident occurred involving Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson prior to his rookie season in 2022. Robinson was shot in the leg during an attempted carjacking. He returned to practice just weeks after the shooting and was able to play later that year.

This is a developing situation and we will provide more information as it is released
