The New York Giants 2023 season has gotten off to a miserable start on the field and has only been compounded off the field after offensive lineman Evan Neal criticized fans.
“Why would a lion concern himself with the opinion of a sheep?” Neal said earlier this week. “The person that’s commenting on my performance, what does he do? Flip hot dogs and hamburgers somewhere?”
To his credit, Neal has since made a public apology to Giants fans.
“I am wrong for lashing out at the fans who are just as passionate and frustrated as I am,” Neal wrote on social media. “I let my frustrations in my play and desire to win get the best of me. I had no right to make light of anyone’s job and I deeply regret the things I said.
“We are working day in and day out to grow as a team and this was an unnecessary distraction. I apologize.”
Asked about his teammate’s comments on Thursday, Saquon Barkley — who the team is desperately hoping will be able to suit up this weekend before their season truly gets away from them — imparted some sage advice on Neal.
“The advice I would give to him and any other teammate – never pick a battle with the fans. You’re never gonna win that one. They’ve been here before us and they’re gonna be here after us,” Barkley said.

So far this season, Barkley has played in just two games and has 29 carries for 114 yards and one touchdown.
The 1-3 Giants certainly face quite the obstacle if they’re hoping to get their second win of the season this weekend as they’ll be taking on the high-scoring Dolphins down in Miami.
The bookies are expecting the game to be a blowout, as the Dolphins are currently favored by almost two touchdowns.
