Rams head coach Sean McVay has announced that rookie quarterback Stetson Bennett has been removed from the active roster due to issues “bigger than” football.

While the move comes as a surprise to fans, McVay remained tight-lipped about the specifics about what is going around with the 4th round rookie from the 2023 NFL Draft.

Out of respect for him and the situation, I’m going to leave all the specifics and particulars in-house,” McVay said during a press conference.

Contrary to initial speculation, McVay clarified that Bennett’s removal from the roster is unrelated to a minor shoulder injury he recently experienced. Instead, it seems the young quarterback is grappling with off-field challenges that have taken precedence.

“I want to be able to do that out of respect for that situation, so I’m not going to really have any follow-up information or anything that I’ll give in that regard.” McVay said.

McVay made it clear that he hopes everyone can understand the importance of keeping this matter private.

“I really hope that you can please respect my wishes in regards to keeping that in-house,” he urged. “I understand you have a job to do, but there are certain things that I think are a little bigger and a little more important. And out of respect for the particulars and the specifics, we want to keep it in-house, and that’s where I want to leave it, please.”

Stetson Bennett had shown promise during the preseason, and in his impressive college record which included back-to-back national championships at Georgia, in 2021 and 2022.

Despite his on-field talent, however, questions about maturity and readiness for the NFL arose during the pre-draft process following an arrest for public intoxication.
