Perhaps I’m a bad person for delighting in other people’s misery. If that’s the case, I’m sorry. But this video of Seattle Seahawks fans reacting to their team’s Super Bowl XLIX loss was the most entertaining thing I’ve seen in a long time. Like, I may have enjoyed it more than the actual football game.
Each member of the group is dressed in a snazzy jersey. The camera stays static on the band of fans as they take a magical voyage toward a second consecutive Super Bowl win. You watch as the excitement builds thanks to 17 unanswered Seahawks points. You watch as New England comes back to make things tight. You watch as they hope against hope for a miracle — and then get one in the form of Jermaine Kearse’s outrageous juggling catch.
And you watch as them prematurely celebrate victory, only to have it wretched out of their hands by a horrible play call.
Then you watch silence, sadness, and an overwhelming sense of anger creep over the room.
It’s a hell of a thing to have the most disappointing moment in your fandom filmed for all to see. You wonder if some of these guys have any regrets about letting it happen.
But I will say this: they handle having their hearts placed in a blender much better than some would under similar circumstances.
I’m sure there’s a lot of broken shit across homes in the Pacific Northwest this morning. And broken dreams.
