Snoop Dogg stepped back into his role as America’s unofficial mascot at the Winter Olympics when Team USA headed to Milano Cortina. However, a member of his security team has been accused of shoving a decorated Dutch speed skater into a wall during an incident that transpired on Wednesday.
In 2024, the Olympians who represented the United States at the Summer Olympics in Paris earned the full support of a couple of hip-hop legends who got very invested in the international competition.
Flavor Flav went from serving as the hype man for Public Enemy to stepping into the same role for the women’s water polo team, and Snoop Dogg popped up at a number of events while earning a very sizeable check as a special correspondent for NBC.
Both of those rappers decided to make the trek to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina. Flavor Flav was dubbed the official hype man of America’s skeleton and bobsled teams after sponsoring them, while the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee named Snoop its first-ever “Honorary Coach” ahead of The Game.
The Long Beach legend has been front and center at a number of events, but his presence at a speed skating race ended up spawning some controversy due to an incident involving a retired racer who secured three gold medals during her Olympic career.
Retired Dutch speed skater Marianne Timmer says Snoop Dogg’s security guard pushed her into a wall at the Winter Olympics
The Netherlands has historically run speed skating events on the long track at the Winter Olympics. Prior to the start of this year’s showdown, the Dutch had won 133 medals in that discipline (the United States sat in second with 71), which accounted for around 90% of the total medals the country has secured over the years.
On Wednesday, Jenning de Boo was able to increase that number by one by earning a silver in the 1000 m, a race where America’s Jordan Stolz got the gold by half a second while setting an Olympic record with a time of 1:06.28.
Snoop Dogg was in attendance to watch things go down, and that was also the case with Marianne Timmer, who won gold for the Netherlands in the 1000 m and 1500 m in Nagano in 1998 and pulled off an upset to get another in the former in Turin in 2006.
She may be a bit of a legend in her home country, but based on what the 51-year-old said in an interview recapping her experience at the race, she did not get any respect from a member of Snoop Dogg’s security detail.
Timmer recapped what went down inside the Milano Speed Skating Stadium, saying:
“[Snoop] was walking through a hallway, and I was standing against the wall, and a security guard pushed me even closer. I said, ‘Just act normal.’ It’s a really wide hall, about four meters.
The guy comes back and I said, ‘What? Do I have to go through that wall or what?’He totally lost it. Then I said something mean back too. I’m not here waiting for Snoop Dogg.”
It sounds like cooler heads prevailed, but it sounds like Snoop’s entourage may be a little overzealous.
