Spencer Rattler saw action in the Saints‘ third preseason contest on Sunday, and he showed why the organization used a fifth-round selection on the signal caller.

The rookie balled out in a loss to the Titans, tossing the team’s only passing touchdown of the preseason.

And it was a beauty.

New Orleans faced a long 3rd-and-12 in Rattler’s opening drive, but they’d move the sticks and more. Rattler dropped back in a clean pocket before firing an absolute dime over a pair of Tennessee defenders.

Equanimeous St. Brown hauled in the perfectly placed ball in the endzone for a quick six to get the Saints on the board.

The POV video from St. Brown’s perspective is even more impressive. The pass couldn’t have been thrown in a better spot!

Many following along with the game latched onto whispers of a quarterback controversy bubbling in NOLA. Derek Carr doesn’t seem worried.

Immediately after that score, cameras caught Carr coaching his new teammate up on the sidelines.

Even as speculation grows about Rattler unseating Carr under center, he continues to uplift teammates as opposed to doing what’s best from a personal standpoint. That isn’t the case in many other QB battles.

Rattler finished his day with seven completions for 105 yards.

The expectation as of now is for the veteran, Carr, to take the first snap when the Saints take the field in a season opening matchup against division rival Panthers.

It looks like Spencer Rattler’s doing all he can to close the gap. He could very well see the field this season, and it looks like he’ll have Derek Carr in his corner.
