After winning the national championship with Georgia, Stetson Bennett is a king in Athens. However, that tune may change after he cursed the Bulldogs’ baseball team.

On Friday afternoon, UGA baseball began its 2022 season by hosting its season-opener against Albany. Prior to the game, Bennett joined the team for some pregame batting practice.

During his hitting session, the 24-year-old got some good hacks in and even went yard.

After taking some swings in the cage, it was time for Bennett to show off his arm. Georgia’s starting quarterback was invited to throw out the first pitch prior to the game and thew straight gas. It was a little bit low, but it might have drawn a swing from the batter for a strike.

The entire ceremony was a lot of fun.

However, on his way to the mound, Bennett cursed the Dawgs.

As Bennett walked out to toe the rubber, he stepped on the first base line. There is an unwritten rule in baseball — one that comes with great superstition — that players should never step on either of the two foul ball lines while walking on or off of the field.

If a player does step on a line, there is bad luck that comes with it. Well, Bennett’s foot stepped down directly onto the chalk.

It wasn’t a toe or a smidgeon of a heel. It was a significant chunk of his foot that landed right on the line.

Not good. Should Georgia end up falling from their Top-25 ranking, miss a regional, or lose a chance at Omaha on the final out — whatever the curse may end up being — know that Bennett and his foot is to blame.
