The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that Baker Mayfield will be their starting quarterback for their Week 1 clash against the Minnesota Vikings.

Mayfield emerged victorious in the quarterback competition, securing the coveted role over former Gators standout, Kyle Trask.

Baker was originally selected as the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, has had an eventful journey leading up to this announcement.

Having spent time with both the Carolina Panthers and the Los Angeles Rams during the 2022 season, Mayfield eventually found his way to the Buccaneers after inking a free-agent deal.

Buccaneers’ Head Coach, Todd Bowles affirmed Mayfield’s position as the starting quarterback while designating the 2021 second-round draft pick, Kyle Trask, as the backup.

“Baker is the starting quarterback,” stated Bowles. “Kyle is No. 2.”

Mayfield’s career has seen a lot of ups and downs so far.

Having secured a one-year contract worth $4 million with the Buccaneers in March, the quarterback now finds himself donning the colors of his fourth team.

As the Buccaneers gear up for the new season, fans will be closely watching Mayfield’s performance as he takes charge of the team’s offense against the Minnesota Vikings.
