When you think of powerful groups in the US, there’s the Teamsters, the NRA, and then there’s Swifties.
You just don’t mess with Taylor Swift fans unless you want major, major problems.
So with Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce now dating Swift, you’d imagine that he’d want to get them on his side.
Now, that was no easy task at first. Swifties are fiercely defensive of their icon. Almost terrifyingly so. So the initial returns on Kelce weren’t all positive.
But now it appears that they’re coming around.
Jeff Eisenberg of Yahoo Sports spoke with several diehard Swift fans about their perception of Kelce and his relationship with Swift.
And, as it turns out, they’re all seemingly on board.
“Before this, I would say like 10% knew who Travis Kelce was,” Nick Adams, co-founder of “13: A Taylor Swift Fan Podcast” told Eisenberg.
“This is a guy who likes to be the center of the party,” Adams said, “and she’s never really dated anyone like that.”
But Ginnie Low, who runs a Swift-themed TikTok, told Eisenberg that she’s happy for the music megastar.
“I really love this joy for her,” Low said. “I think it speaks volumes that she chose to go to the game in such a public way and that she looked like she was having the absolute best time while she was there.”
A public relations professional said that Kelce “gave listeners the acknowledgment that they wanted, but he didn’t do it in a way where it felt like he was using her as a prop for his show,” when he spoke about their relationship on his New Heights podcast with his brother Jason.
Whether or not the two last is anyone’s guess. And history says that answer is probably “no.”
But at least for the time being, Kelce has a key demographic on his side.
