Texas Longhorns fans at a football game
Texas fans were understandably frustrated by what unfolded when they hosted Florida for a game where the Gators pulled off a major upset in enemy territory. That includes one member of the Longhorns faithful who riled up some visiting players by flipping them off on the field, and it turns out that will be the last time he steps foot in the stadium.
The “Is Texas Back?” needle moved much closer to “Yes” after the Longhorns improved to 4-0 with a win over #14 Tennessee at the end of September, a victory they secured two weeks after some serious movement on that front thanks to a victory over a top-ranked Ohio State team.
However, it started to swing back to “No” after the Longhorns suffered a defeat in the Red River Rivalry at the hands of an unranked Oklahoma squad that was sitting at 2-2 heading into the showdown, but they had the chance to bounce back when they hosted Florida last weekend.
As was the case with the Sooners, the 4-2 Gators didn’t have a number next to their name, and they were double-digit underdogs heading into a road game against an opponent that was still sitting at #7 in spite of their loss the previous week.
However, Florida ultimately left DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium with a 27-24 win (a loss that led to Texas plummeting to #19), and one Longhorns fan has been permanently banned from entering that venue due to what transpired in the wake of the contest.
A Texas fan earned a lifetime ban from Longhorns home games after flipping off Florida players who chased after him
It was hard to blame Texas fans for being less than thrilled after being subjected to back-to-back losses, and one guy who was permitted to make his way onto the field immediately after the game concluded opted to vent by whipping out his phone to film himself throwing a middle finger in the direction of some Florida players.
That didn’t sit well with running back London Montgomery, who had to be held back by a staffer before some of his teammates joined the fray.
Hated to see this after the game. Fans are frustrated but no need to run onto the field and do this. https://t.co/7aPogvnfyD

It was certainly a bad look for the fan in question, and that video eventually came to the attention of Texas athletic director  Chris Del Conte, who addressed the incident in the installment of the Forty Acres Insider newsletter that was released on Tuesday.
Del Conte closed out the newsletter by addressing the “unacceptable behavior by an individual who had the privilege of field access” while issuing an apology to Florida, adding, “This individual failed to uphold that responsibility and has been permanently banned from Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.”
And with that, we wrap up our lastest episode of When Clout-Chasing Goes Wrong.
