In the state of Texas, there are few things bigger than high school football. And DeSoto High School running back SaRod Baker is making sure his name goes down in Texas high school football history.
Baker, a three-star recruit according to 247Sports, is just a junior, but he’s already the focal point of the Eagles’ offense, and for good reason.
Across five playoff games, Baker has put up the following numbers:
9 carries, 158 yards, 3 touchdowns in a 63-6 win over Copperas Cove
27 carries, 375 yards, 5 touchdowns in a 60-28 win over Longview
24 carries, 202 yards, 1 touchdown in a 56-34 win over College Park
37 carries, 402 yards, 7 touchdowns in a 60-41 win over Willis
38 carries, 366 yards, 3 touchdowns in a 56-44 win over Southlake Caroll.
That works out to a total of 135 carries for 1,503 yards and 19 touchdowns across just five playoff games! On average, that’s 27 carries for 300.6 yards and 3.8 touchdowns per game, all in playoff games!
And Baker seems as if he’s just getting better as the DeSoto playoff run goes on.
While DeSoto’s success in football is relatively new, it’s been a powerhouse over the past decade. The Eagles won their first Texas state championship in 2016 and then won again in both 2022 and 2023.
The program has produced a number of superstars such as Von Miller, Byron Murphy, and current Syracuse wide receiver Johntay Cook, who left Texas in controversial fashion following the 2024 season.
Baker will now have a chance to add to his legendary run in the state championship on Saturday as DeSoto takes on C.E. King for the Class 6A-II state championship.
His 247 profile currently lists offers from Ohio State, Texas Tech, TCU, and Iowa, among others. Something tells us he’ll be adding to that impressive list in the weeks to come after one of the most incredible playoff runs anyone has ever seen.
