The Texas State baseball team picked up a massive win over the weekend giving the Bobcats bragging rights over an in-state rival. TSU took down Texas in dramatic fashion, with a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning being the difference.

The two programs faced off as part of the Astros Foundation College Classic at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Those in attendance got a treat.

A high-scoring contest saw the Bobcats jump out to a quick 6-0 lead over the first two innings, headlined by a Chase Mora grand slam.

Texas battled back, eventually taking a late lead thanks to a four-run seventh frame. The squads traded runs in the eighth inning to make the score 10-9 headed into the ninth.

Cue the fireworks.

One out away from defeat, Aaron Lugo stepped up to the dish for his final at-bat with a teammate on base. The Texas State third baseman turned on the first pitch he saw, sending that baseball flying over the fence in left field.

Most impressively, he belted that bomb while blowing a bubble in the box.

Images of the game-winning home run quickly made their way to social media with Lugo’s bubble gum being the star.

The Bobcats would shut the Horns down in the bottom of the ninth inning to put a bow on the 11-10 upset. Both teams moved to 7-3 on the season, and Texas State will look to finish a perfect 3-0 in the Astros Foundation College Baseball Classic.
