Texas State University will hold a field goal competition on Saturday to give one student free tuition, and there’s an awesome twist! A winner is guaranteed to take home that prize.

The Bobcats will keep the contest going until someone finally makes the kick.

Posted on the Texas State website are details for the President’s Kick for Free Tuition.

The rules are as follows:

  1. Attend the Bobcats’ football game against Georgia Southern.
  2. Three Texas State students will be selected at random with an opportunity to kick a 35-yard field goal at halftime.
  3. And here’s the “kicker:” If the first three participants fail, others in attendance will be allowed to line up after the game for the chance to win.

Of course, as there are with all contests, there are requirements. Students must be enrolled in the Fall 2023 semester, and most notably, there is only one attempt per contestant.

Whoever makes the kick will land free tuition for the 2024 Fall semester.

Many online have been quick to comment.

“Frankly, this is awesome.”

“They’ve got money, let them give back to the students. Honestly, other schools should do the same.”

“Watch out, they might just find a kicker!”

According to one person in the comments section, this type of promotion isn’t unique to the school. Outside of its field goal competition, Texas State also holds a half-court shot contest during basketball season for the same prize.

And who knows? That free tuition could turn into something greater.

Let’s not forget that Mike Leach once found a kicker in a promotional contest.

The Bobcats might not be that desperate as placekicker Mason Shipley is a perfect 10-for-10 on his field goal attempts while also converting 100% of his extra points.

Still, the competition should be fun to watch and it will send one lucky student home with a semester’s worth of free school.
