Texas Tech head football coach Joey McGuire is going viral after starring in a preseason hype video alongside Red Raider cheerleaders. That clip was posted by cheer squad member Brenley Herrera on both X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok.

Despite grabbing the immediate attention of college football fans, the school’s online outlets have yet to reshare the post. A controversial end to the 2023 season might have something to do with it!

Coastal Carolina travelled cross-country to Honolulu last December to play against San Jose State in its bowl game. During the lead-up to the postseason contest, head coach Tim Beck was photographed on the beach with Chanticleer dance team members.

Initially, both the football and dance team accounts posted the image, which showed Beck surrounded by the dancers in bathing suits. What better attire for a day by the ocean?!

Unfortunately, it began gaining negative response a few hours after going public, forcing Coastal Carolina’s hand in removing the photo from its timelines.

The Red Raiders might want to avoid a similar outcome!

The clip shows McGuire standing behind two cheerleaders who seem excited about the year to come.

While it’s gone viral with nearly 34K views on TikTok and 44K on X in 18 hours, Texas Tech’s social teams are staying away.

Neither the cheer squad nor the football team have reshared the video on their official outlets. While the innocent clip is an incredible way to build anticipation for the upcoming season, the Red Raiders may not want to deal with an unnecessary headache!

The athletic department will continue to watch its head coach go viral from the sidelines while posting images of McGuire in a more professional light on its own timelines.

You can’t blame them given past drama!

Joey McGuire is just days away from leading the Red Raiders onto the field for the ’24 campaign. Texas Tech will take on Abilene Christian in the season opener on Saturday.
