The Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl is Now a Reality

This season’s slate of bowl games just got a lot more tech-savvy with the news of the BitCoin St. Petersburg Bowl. The deal, brokered between BitPay and ESPN Events, will last for four years and make the delicious-sounding Beef O’Brady’s Bowl a thing of the past.

The important takeaway here is that you’ll be forced to explain what bitcoin is to your extended family on the day after Christmas. That’s going to be a real treat for everyone involved.

The bowl game is in the first year in partnership with the ACC and AAC, which won’t get confusing at all. Traditionalists worried about losing the grandeur of two second-rate teams playing football on the Tampa Bay Rays field can rest easy knowing only the name is changing. The players will still be paid in room and board, you’ll still watch out of boredom and forget who won two days later.
