Projected Inclement Weather Thursday Morning At The Masters Spells Trouble For Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods is almost certainly past the stage of his career where he can win a major championship. Had he not had the countless injuries and surgeries, it would’ve been easy to project him to be a favorite at tournaments like The Masters this weekend at 48-years-old.

That being said, Tiger Woods did say at his Masters press conference that he thought he could still win. Even if we give him the benefit of the doubt on that, I think even he’d agree things have to be perfect.

The first round of the 2024 Masters has not even begun yet, and Tiger is getting some bad breaks. The first bad break was drawing a tee time that has him teeing off at 1:24 PM ET on Thursday and 10:18 AM ET on Friday. I’d strongly assume that Tiger Woods would prefer having a a morning/afternoon tee time to maximize his recovery time in between rounds.

Tee times are largely going to be thrown out the window, though. The forecast for Thursday morning at Augusta National Golf Club is not good at all. So bad, in fact, that ANGC has already pushed back the opening of the gates.

Looking at the Weather forecast as of 10PM ET Wednesday night, it’s expected to be a washout until midday at Augusta National Golf Club. With the technology Augusta has to dry the course, especially the greens, it’s expected that they will be able to golf sometime in the afternoon on Thursday. And, the forecast for the rest of the tournament looks perfect.

But, if tomorrow’s action is delayed, as it is likely to be, it means that Tiger Woods is likely to not finish his round tomorrow. That means, he will have to wake up early and finish his round Friday morning before playing his second round with a short turnaround time.

At one point in his GOAT career, he was built for this and it would’ve been a huge break in his favor. That’s not the case anymore. Tiger Woods cannot play 27 good holes of golf in one day on a course as hilly as Augusta National with a bad back, ankle, knee, etc.

No one is expecting Tiger Woods to win his sixth Green Jacket. But, I think a lot of us would love to see him make the cut again for a record 24th consecutive time. The weather is going to make that more of a challenge.
