TJ Edwards listened to an Eagles play call before intercepting Jalen Hurts.


The Chicago Bears took down the Philadelphia Eagles in Monday Night Football action to improve to 2-1. TJ Edwards sealed the deal with an interception in the second half.

Video showed him listening into the Eagles‘ huddle prior to making that pick. Did he know what play was being called?

A narrative was formed online after Edwards was seen spying on Philadelphia. He admittedly tried to gain intel on the play call prior to the snap.

The play came at the end of the third quarter with the Bears leading 20-7. The Eagles were at midfield looking to cut their deficit in half. Edwards wouldn’t allow it.

Chicago would capitalize on the turnover with an eight-minute touchdown drive to put the game out of reach. They’d go onto win, 27-7.

Clips of Edwards’ pre-snap antics surfaced soon after the interception. He was seen listening into the play call.

Edwards played for the Eagles from 2019 to 2022. He is familiar with Jalen Hurts and the Eagles’ offense. Did his espionage impact the play?

While he admittedly sought some inside information, he was unable to decipher the play call. In the end, it didn’t matter. He was in the right place at the right time.

Here’s what TJ Edwards had to say about the interception after the game.

“No. I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll hear some familiar stuff,’ and like they must have changed language up because I had no idea what they were talking about.”

Edwards didn’t know the play call. In denying the narrative, he certainly sucked some fun out of the situation.

Regardless, his pick was impactful. It prevented the Eagles from mounting a comeback effort. As a result, the Bears picked up a second win on the young season despite having backup Case Keenum under center.

They’ll look to keep the momentum going next Sunday against the Jets.
