Former Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley has signed a one-year contract deal with the Atlanta Falcons, according to reports. At this time, it is unclear how much money the contract is worth.

Gurley, 25-years-old, was released by the Rams on Thursday, March 19. His career has taken a sharp nosedive recently, as former 2017 NFL Offensive Player of the Year and highest-paid running back in NFL history finished with less than 900 rushing yards last season. The Rams originally drafted Gurley out of the University of Georgia with the 10th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

As for the Falcons, they obviously see Gurley as an upgrade, as they also released their former Pro Bowl running back Devonta Freeman earlier this week.

According to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, while “the Rams still owe Todd Gurley a $7.55 million roster bonus” they escape the “additional $10.5M in salary and bonuses that would’ve become fully guaranteed.”

Gurley, who leaves behind $20.15M in dead money on the Rams’ salary cap over the next two years, joins an offense in Atlanta that already features the likes of Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and Calvin Ridley.

With Matt Ryan now 34-years-old, the Falcons are looking to rebuild to mount a return to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
