Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady is in his first year of a new football job. The future Hall of Famer has moved into a broadcast role with FOX following his recent retirement.
While he’s no longer on the field on Sundays, he remains in the spotlight as he breaks down the action from his spot in the booth. He made headlines once again during a game between the 49ers and Cardinals.
Brady’s introduction to television has been met with mixed reviews.
An interview on FOX during a college football battle between alma mater Michigan and Texas ended awkwardly as he was cut off on the broadcast. His NFL debut wasn’t much better.
Many said he sounded nervous during that initial broadcast, and he, himself, admitted that there was room for improvement.
Hiccups aside, there are some that enjoy his presence on their TV screens.
His success as a quarterback allows him to provide a unique perspective when it comes to analyzing the action on the field. It’s the reason FOX opted to sign him to a $375 million contract while bumping the popular Greg Olsen to second string.
Similar to Tony Romo, Brady offers viewers incredible insight into play design, scheme, and QB thought process. He’s passionate about relaying any and all information to his listeners.
On Sunday, some say his excitement got the best of him!

He was heard “oooh-ing” and “ahhh-ing” after crucial moments in the action, sometimes drowning out his play-by-play partner.
The reaction to his excitement seems to be split.
“I like it when broadcasters show excitement during a game. The best commentators make it feel like they’re watching the game with you,” said one viewer.
“Fun. I’ll take this over boring mundane announcing any day,” echoed another.
While some invited the emotion as it showed how invested he is in the game, others thought it was over the top.
“Annoying. It’s way too much,” this fan wrote.
“It’s good for color commentator to react but he does it too much,” said another.
Tom Brady’s style seems to have won some over. Others, though, believe he needs to tone it down. We’ll see if his excitement level in the booth is the same next weekend.
