Recently retired and future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady has officially agreed to purchase a minority ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders.

At this time, Brady’s purchase agreement has been submitted to the league office and will now need to be approved by the NFL. Furthermore, neither the Raiders nor Brady has made an official statement on the deal at the time of this publication.

“The sale of a minority share of the Raiders to ex-Patriots and Bucs QB Tom Brady has been agreed to and submitted to the NFL for approval. Won’t be done at the spring meeting but ball is rolling on it,” Sports Illustrated reporter Albert Breer tweeted on Monday afternoon.

Currently, it’s unclear how much money Brady is investing in the franchise. According to ProFootballTalk, one percent ownership in the team would likely cost Brady between $40 million and $60 million.

Currently owned by Mark and Carol Davis, the Las Vegas Raiders were founded in 1960 as the Oakland Raiders and only made the move to Nevada back in 2020. During their sixty-plus years as an NFL franchise, the Raiders have become one of the most iconic clubs in the NFL.

Over the last two decades, however, the Raiders have largely been mired in mediocrity, having only made the playoffs five times since the year 2000 (2000, 2001, 2002, 2016, and 2021).

Brady’s investment in the Raiders comes just a few months after the 45-year-old announced his retirement from the National Football League after 23 historic seasons — 20 with the New England Patriots and the final three with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

During his 23 seasons in the NFL, Brady set the record for the most Super Bowl wins by any single player or franchise with seven. He also holds the record in virtually every major quarterbacking statistic, such as most career passing touchdowns, yards, completions, games started, and wins.
