Tom Brady’s first game back in New England since signing with the Buccaneers was an interesting one, to say the least. Brady was greeted with a standing ovation when he took the field for warmups, but then Pats fans flipped a switch and booed the best player in franchise history as he trotted onto the field for Tampa Bay’s first drive.
As for Brady’s performance during the rainy Sunday night contest, it wasn’t anything to write home about. He finished the night going 22-for-43 through the air for 269 and zero touchdowns. Tampa Bay won the game 19-17, however, which ultimately makes Brady’s return to New England a success on his part.
While Patriots fans didn’t enjoy seeing Brady earn a dramatic win in Foxborough wearing a different team’s jersey, that’s not to say that most wouldn’t be ecstatic if he became a Patriot again one day.
Brady was asked about the opportunity of becoming a Patriot again following the game on Sunday night delivered a nice little teaser for those who would want to see it happen.
“I don’t know what the future holds. Obviously could be an opportunity to come back here. We’ll see,” Brady told reporters. “I feel like I’ll always be a part of this community. I’ll be up here quite a bit when it’s all said and done.
“When I retire I’m sure there will be a lot of time for – you know, I have a lot of friends up here and it’s a great place. My kids were born on Beacon Street in the city. It’s been an amazing place for me, it still is.”
Patriots owner Robert Kraft certainly wouldn’t mind seeing Brady sign with his team, even if it’s on a one-day contract just to retire a Patriot. Kraft told NFL Network on Sunday he believes Brady will one day return to the franchise.
