Tom Brady’s playing career in the NFL has made him the consensus greatest player of all time. The seven-time Super Bowl winner dominated the league for two decades and was a productive player well into his 40s.

As he moves into broadcasting,  he’s hoping to be half as good at that that he was at actually playing quarterback. Brady will make his NFL broadcasting debut as a color commentator on FOX’s top NFL broadcasting team alongside Kevin Burkhardt this fall.

Most thought we’d have to wait until then to get our first taste of Tom Brady in the broadcast booth. But, he made a surprise, unannounced appearance in the broadcast booth during the United Football League Championship Game.

Brady, who came on the broadcast during the 2nd quarter had this to say about the game when asked about teams looking tight in championship games, as the game between the Birmingham Stallions and San Antonio Brahmas had a slow start.

They’re all a little different, you get into these games and there’s a lot of defense out there right now you. see defense  out there playing without a lotenergy but someone’s got to get the ball down the field and try to open this field up a little bitIt’s a lot of horizontal passes and the defense is swarming and trying to punch the ball out. So, make them defend every blade of grass. That’s what we used to say.

Not bad work for his first time appearance as an analyst!

Expectations are high for Tom Brady, who is replacing Greg Olsen in the top analyst chair, despite Olsen having been wildly acclaimed in that role since taking over at FOX for Troy Aikman, who moved to ESPN with broadcast partner Joe Buck.

Expect Brady’s foray into broadcasting to be more scrutinized than any former player’s broadcasting career has ever been.

The Stallions beat the Brahmas, 32-0.
