The Auburn passing game was tough to watch this season.

With Bo Nix leaving for Oregon, the Tigers took a major step back at quarterback.

They had TJ Finley in his second year with the team and brought in Robby Ashford as a transfer from Oregon and neither was particularly impressive this season. Finley threw just 53 passes all season and was intercepted 4 times.

Ashford completed just 49.2% of his 250 pass attempts, only threw for 1613 yards in 12 games and had a 1:1 TD:INT ratio. The running game helped make up for some of the struggles at QB, but the team still finished 88th in scoring this season. Those offensive struggles certainly contributed to the team missing out on a bowl game this season.

Luckily, new head coach Hugh Freeze has a transfer quarterback coming in for a visit who could change things for them.

According to 247 Sports’ Brandon Marcello, Grayson McCall, who is the top quarterback in the transfer portal, is going to be visiting Auburn on Saturday.

Grayson McCall was impressive for Coastal Carolina this season. In 10 games for the Chanticleers, he threw for 2633 yards with 24 touchdowns while only being intercepted twice and ran in another 5 scores.

Before an injury cost him the last couple of games of the year, Coastal Carolina was one of the most dangerous mid-major offenses in college football.

Landing McCall would be a massive win for Hugh Freeze as he attempts to turn the Auburn Tigers around in his first season as their head coach. He has already gotten a big recruiting win when he flipped a top interior offensive lineman who had committed to Miami.

If Freeze can land McCall, Auburn could quickly return to being one of the best football programs in the SEC.
