San Francisco 49ers Fans Are Getting Excited About Trey Lance After Video Emerges Of New Throwing Motion

The San Francisco 49ers have seemingly been a quarterback away from a dynasty for the last decade.

The Niners believed they found that quarterback when they moved up to No. 3 in the 2023 NFL Draft and selected Trey Lance out of North Dakota State.

Lance sat on the bench most of his rookie season and learned behind then-starter Jimmy Garoppolo.

But in 2022, it was supposed to be Lance’s time to shine. Instead, the 6-foot-4, 224-pounder struggled in the first two games of the season before breaking his ankle and missing the rest of the year.

San Francisco then turned to Garoppolo, who ended up getting hurt as well, before rookie QB Brock Purdy took over and the rest is history.

Many expect Purdy to be the starter going forward so long as he recovers well from UCL surgery. Even 49ers general manager John Lynch all but said as much.

But it appears that nobody told Lance.

The now third-year QB is back healthy and he’s coming for the starting job.

Trey Lance Shows Of Improved Throwing Motion Ahead Of Third Year With 49ers

Videos began circulating Thursday evening of Lance working out with Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes.

And it appears that Lance has made a significant change to his throwing motion.

David Lombardi of The Athletic posted a side-by-side video of Lance throwing during his offseason workout and Lance throwing prior to the 2022 season.

It’s clear that Lance is now holding the ball higher in the new video and throwing much more over the top. This move also allows him to release the ball much more quickly.

49ers fans were fired up about the new development.

Only time will well whether Lance has truly figured things out. But if he has, the Niners may have just gone from having no franchise quarterbacks to two franchise quarterbacks in a short period of time.
