Ring The Bell: The UFC OFFICIALLY Sold, And For A LOT Of Money

Leading up to this sale Dana White and the UFC have had one wild ride over the past several months. Firstly, there were the rumors that they’d be unloading the UFC in a massive sale, and then news falsely broke that the UFC had been sold. Naturally, when that happened Dana White lost it and claimed all of those reports were false, but since he’s basically a megalomaniac control freak nobody ever believed him. After that came the recent steroid issues, with Anderson Silva replacing Jon Jones after the latter failed his pre-fight drug tests, testing positive for a banned substance.

Now we can officially say that IT’S OFFICIAL: the UFC has BEEN SOLD, and for A TON of money, $4 BILLION to be exact.

via Bloomberg.com:

UFC, the premier mixed martial arts promoter, has been sold for about $4 billion to a group led by Hollywood talent agency WME-IMG and backed by private-equity firms Silver Lake Partners LP, KKR & Co. and the investment firm of Michael Dell.
“UFC has experienced tremendous growth over the last decade and we are looking forward to helping the organization and its athletes identify new opportunities to develop and further establish their global footprint,” WME co-Chief Executive Officer Ari Emanuel said in the memo.
The deal was first reported by The New York Times.
UFC is owned by brothers Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta, who bought the company for $2 million in 2001. Buoyed by fighters such as Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor, UFC has grown into a billion-dollar business that stages sold-out events in arenas around the world, and reaches a pay-per-view audience that now rivals that of boxing’s most recent biggest fights.

So while most of you were sleeping the UFC just got sold for $4 billion. In just 14 years they went from a company worth $2 million to a company worth $4 BILLION. Definitely makes you reconsider that startup idea you’ve had on the back burner, because it’s crazy what a few hard years of work can accomplish.

As reported on UPROXX.com, this is not the LARGEST SALE in the history of sports.
