Dylan Black and Boobie Feaster will both play college football at USC in 2026. Black is the oldest player on the roster. Feaster is the youngest.

They are separated by eight, almost nine years!

There may not be a larger age gap in college football. It stems from two unique situations.

Who is eighth-year college football player Dylan Black?

USC lists Dylan Black as a redshirt senior. That is a significant understatement. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound long snapper is an eighth-year senior who began his college football career prior to the pandemic. It has been an inspiring journey.

Black, a native of Reno, Nevada, played high school football at Bishop Manogue. He committed to Oregon State in 2019 and took a redshirt as a true freshman. The Beavers named him as the starting long snapper in 2020.

Black stayed in that role for each of the next four seasons. He played all 13 games in 2021, 2022 and 2023 before his world came crashing down that next offseason. Doctors diagnosed Black with stage 3 testicular cancer. His recovery efforts kept him away from the gridiron for all of 2024, right as he was starting to gain recognition as a legitimate NFL prospect.

The Oregon State coaching staff gave its long snapper as much time as he needed. His scan ultimately came back clear on Oct. 17 after three-and-a-half months of chemotherapy. Black, who was nominated for the Jason Witten Man of the Year award, spent the rest of the 2024 season on the sideline and in the weight room. He made his triumphant return to the field last fall.

Unfortunately, the 2025 campaign was also cut short. Black broke his snapping hand on a special teams play during the season-opener and missed the entire year.

Fortunately, the NCAA allowed him to return in 2026. His career breaks down like this:

  • 2019 — Redshirt
  • 2020 — COVID-19 blanket waiver
  • 2021 — Year 1
  • 2022 — Year 2
  • 2023 — Year 3
  • 2024 — Medical redshirt
  • 2025 — Medical redshirt
  • 2026 — Year 4

Black entered the transfer portal in January and will exhaust his eligibility at the University of Southern California. His youngest teammate, Boobie Feaster, is nine years younger.

Who is USC wide receiver Boobie Feaster?

Dylan Black was born on October 13, 2000. He is the oldest player on the college football roster at USC. He is nine years older than Boobie Feaster. Feaster, a true freshman, was born May 23, 2009.

As a four-star prospect, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver ranked as the No. 4 player at his position and top-50 player overall in the recruiting Class of 2026. The Louisiana-native, whose legal name is Ethan, received the nickname “Boobie” after Boobie Miles from Friday Night Lights.

Technically speaking, Feaster could be (should be?) entering his senior year of high school. He was initially ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver in the Class of 2027 before he decided to reclassify to 2026. That decision effectively erased his junior season. Feaster went from a sophomore in 2024 to a senior in 2025 and caught 98 passes for 1,777 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Black is entering his eighth season of college football at 25 years old and will turn 26 in October. Feaster is entering his first season of college football at only 17 years old and will not turn 18 until next year. They were born eight years, seven months and 10 days apart. It has to be one of the biggest age gaps in college football!
