The NHL will be coming to Utah next year. The Arizona Coyotes are no more, having been sold to Ryan and Ashley Smith, who also own the Utah Jazz, and are being moved to Salt Lake City.

That’s old news now, as that transaction was completed back in mid-April. One thing we didn’t know is what the new team would be called.

Now. we do know. But, it may not be what you’re expecting. In fact, it’s pretty unique.

There will be no nickname for the Utah franchise next year. In fact, they’ll just go by “Utah” on their jerseys and in official communications. Not even Utah Hockey Team, like the Washington Football Team before the franchise was renamed the Commanders.

But, it seems to be only a one-year stopgap. The team has released twenty choices. According to Sportslogos.net, here they are.

Utah Black Diamonds, Utah Blast, Utah Blizzard, Utah Canyons, Utah Caribou, Utah Freeze, Utah Frost, Utah Fury, Utah Glaciers, Utah HC, Utah Hive, Utah Ice, Utah Mammoth, Utah Mountaineers, Utah Outlaws, Utah Powder, Utah Squall, Utah Swarm, Utah Venom, and Utah Yeti.

Of those, I think I like the Yeti, the Blast, and the Frost the best. But, a lot of these are pretty decent.
