UTEP’s Wednesday night matchup against Sam Houston State got started on the wrong foot when it was discovered they forgot their gameday jerseys. The Miners packed their home uniforms for the trip to Huntsville, leaving the road whites in El Paso.

That forced the Bearkats, who also happen to sport orange and blue team colors, to switch to an alternative home uniform.

Fans immediately reacted to the news on social media, most being thankful of the wardrobe mishap.

Thank you to UTEP’s equipment guy for accidentally leaving the white jerseys in El Paso. Sometimes we can’t see it in the moment, but everything happens for a reason.”

UTEP accidentally packed the wrong jerseys for the road, so tonight’s game vs. Sam Houston is going to be home-Blue vs home-Orange.”

“This is a visually appealing game.”

“Even though it was a mistake, I dig the color-on-color matchup. This needs to happen more!”

While it certainly wasn’t what the team had planned in its pregame preparations, the mistake gave viewers an accidental “Color Rush” to make the midweek madness all the more entertaining.

The play on the field has been as colorful as those team jerseys with the two sides trading blows and lighting up the scoreboard. Sam Houston State entered the game with an 0-7 record but used some big plays to jump out to an early two-score lead at home.

UTEP battled back from the deficit with three straight second half scores to grab its first lead in the fourth quarter.

SHSU was able to even the score back up at 34-34 late before UTEP walked things off with a last second field goal to win, 37-34.
