Blaze Berlowitz's mom bashed Vanderbilt's football coaches for benching her son.

The quarterback position at Vanderbilt has been under the microscope this football season. Blaze Berlowitz opened the year as the starter. He was later replaced by five-star freshman Jared Curtis.

Berlowitz’s mom does not believe her son was given a fair shake. She called coaches “clowns” this week while speaking to Diego Pavia. Does he deserve to be the starter?

Melanie Berlowitz went viral over the weekend upon seeing Curtis re-inserted into the lineup. The prized recruit missed the previous game vs. Georgia with injury, but was again available for Saturday’s showdown against Ole Miss.

Berlowitz wasn’t exactly pleased.

Berlowitz earned the starting role ahead of the season opener. He won the offseason quarterback competition over Curtis despite the freshman’s highly anticipated arrival.

In Game 1, he threw for 149 yards and ran for a touchdown in a 28-9 win. He struggled a bit in Game 2 and was replaced by Curtis, who led a 35-26 victory. Curtis threw for 210 yards. He also rushed for two scores. After the performance, he was named the full-time starter.

Vanderbilt beat NC State with Curtis leading the charge to improve to 3-0. Since, the Commodores have dropped three straight games. Quarterback play has been an issue.

Curtis was injured during a middling performance against Auburn. The offense scored 15 points. Berlowitz took over in his absence and lost to Georgia. He had the Commodores in it at halftime but failed to lead a touchdown drive over the game’s final 30 minutes. Vanderbilt lost 38-14.

Curtis was again named the starter against Ole Miss after returning from injury. He was picked off twice and completed less than 60% of his attempts. Vandy lost 52-17.

Melanie Berlowitz believes the results would’ve been different had her son started. The Commodores would’ve been more competitive. Blaze Berlowitz is the more proven player.

Will he get another look ahead of the Vanderbilt’s matchup with Arkansas? Will the Commodores continue to take their lumps with a talented freshman?

Blaze Berlowitz’s mom believes her son deserves another chance. He’s waited patiently for three years behind Diego Pavia. Confidence in Curtis is low following his worst performance of the season. A quarterback controversy is brewing in Nashville.
