Imagine you are out for a nice afternoon of golf at your local country club when suddenly a Hyundai Tucson appears on the course. Then, while you are trying to process that, a cop in a Dodge Charger appears, giving chase to the other car on the course.

Some golfers at the Lakeshore Country Club in Greece, New York, didn’t have to imagine such a bizarre scenario. In fact, they captured some wild video of exactly what was just described.

It all began when a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputy received a license plate reader alert at about 4:42 p.m. for a stolen 2019 Hyundai Tucson. The deputy then attempted a traffic stop after verifying that someone had reported the car stolen in Rochester.

Naturally, the driver drove away from the officer rather than stopping peacefully, leading to a chase. The driver, a 19-year-old “repeat offender” who had been “involved in multiple stolen vehicles and pursuits,” according to WHEC News, ended up veering off the road onto Lakeshore Country Club, causing damage to the course.

During the pursuit, deputies stated they were continuously evaluating the driver’s behavior, the state of the traffic, and the danger to the public. The footage shows the driver attempting to flee by leaping from the moving vehicle close to the 18th hole.

Two witnesses couldn’t believe what they were seeing

Joe Lauderdale was standing on the first tee box of the course when his friend gave him a heads up.

“Heads up, I’m expecting a golf ball. I see a full police chase,” he said, adding, “It was pretty electric.”

The vehicle’s radiator fell of on the driving range. Later, deputies approached golfers to see how they were doing and asked whether they wanted to file charges. Dom Mangano, who was using the range, declined.

“You don’t really expect to be hitting a bucket of balls and then look to your right and watch a car getting airborne and start driving through the grass,” Mangano said.
