Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is one of the most likeable people in the NFL. His quirky demeanor, offensive genius, and down to earth persona make him relatable to viewers. He’s more like one of us as opposed to the insanely talented giants we see competing on the football field.
And even better, he’s succeeding in Year 1 as a leader.
McDaniel has the Dolphins sitting at 8-4 on the season, good for second place in the AFC East. Miami has supplanted themselves as a major playoff contender, and should the ball bounce their way, a shot at the division crown is in reach.
On Sunday, during a 33-17 loss to the 49ers, McDaniel was caught taking some responsibility for the team’s poor performance. The act of accountability gave fans yet another reason to root for him.

Former NFL player Chris Long posted the clip on his Twitter account, which shows Mike McDaniel saying, “I f—ed up,” when discussing something with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
The caption, “Rare words from a head coach. You don’t hear that much in the moment,” accompanied the clip, which is a strong endorsement coming from a 2x Super Bowl champ.
Fans on social media quickly reacted to the video, posting responses in the comments section.
One person wrote, “I really like this dude,” while another said, “I love this, we need more coaches acknowledging we all mess up sometimes ain’t nobody perfect.”
This fan posted, “Hope we see more and more of this. Coaches can preach accountability all day in pressers, but you prove it when you don’t know anyone else is watching.”
Mike McDaniel continues to earn the respect of fans around the NFL. Hopefully, he can turn in a playoff run in his first season at the helm.
